Organized China OSS Week 2005
Sun Wah Linux joined forces with the China Software Industry Association, the
China Open Source Software Promotion Union and the China Electronic Standardization
Technology Institute to plan and orgainize China's OSS week. The week was packed
with activites including Asia's Debian Mini Conference, the 5th Asia Open Source
Software Symposium and Codefest Asia 2005.
The China OSS Week 2005 opened doors of communication between the Chinese OSS
industry and its Asian counterparts by providing a platform for government delegates,
educators, Open Source Software developers and Linux fans from as many as 21
countries, to promote the rapid development of OSS in Asia.

Sun Wah Linux appeared at the 9th Annual China Software Expo
On June 2005, at the China Software Exposition, Sun Wah Linux unveiled its latest
product - the Sun Wah Linux RAYS Enterprise Server - RAYS ES as well as demonstrated
developments in four different directions: Sun Wah Linux OS & Application,
Embedded Products & Solutions, Linux Education & Training, Linux &
Embedded Software Outsourcing.
Moreover, during the China OSS Promotion Conference, which was concurrently
held along with the 9th China Software Exposition, Sun Wah Linux won two accolades
recognizing its efforts in product development and excellence - China Excellent
Open Source Software Contributed Enterprise for 2004-2005' and 'China Excellent
Open Source Software Product for 2004-2005' for its RAYS LX product. Sun Wah
Linux is humbled by the recognition and will continue to step up efforts to
improve its product offerings.
Sun Wah Linux Joins the International Debian Linux Core Consortium
Sun Wah Linux worked with Progeny, one of the initiators of "Linux
Core Consortium", to build an international Debian Core Consortium (DCC).
The DCC includes most leading Debian Linux distributors and organizations and
will help unify and standardize Debian Linux as well as evangelize Debian Linux
at the enterprise level.
The idea of an international Debian Linux Core Consortium was first created
from Sun Wah Linux a year ago, and soon won positive responses from Progeny,
Linspire and Xandros etc. At present, the plan to form the DCC is under implementation.
Sun Wah Linux is the only domestic business company engaged in Debian Linux
development and has led the way in releasing Debian-based RAYS series Linux
OS, including desktop, sever and security server series. Sun Wah Linux is also
a dominant vendor of international Debian development. In March this year, Sun
Wah Linux cooperated with the international Debian Community in hosting a small
international Debian conference in Beijing, the first international Debian conference
held in Asia.

Sun Wah Linux Announces a Successful Conclusion to the Linux World Conference
& Expo in San Francisco
Sun Wah Linux successfully completed its U.S. debut at the Linux World 2005
exhibition in San Francisco. Highlights of the conference included Sun Wah's
RAYS SS security solution selected as a finalist in the Product Excellence Awards
competition and the launch of the DCCA (DCCA).
During the Expo, Sun Wah also announced the immediate availability of RAYS ES,
the first Debian-based commercial Linux server platform in Asia.
This was the first time for Sun Wah to participate in the Linux World San Francisco
exhibition. The conference was deemed a success and Sun Wah was able to effectively
introduce the company and its operations to the North American market and discuss
potential partnerships with local corporations.
Dr. Liu Mingbao Joins Sun Wah Linux to Lead Beijing Sun Wah Future Software
Limited
In September 2005, Sun Wah announced the appointment of Dr. Liu Mingbao
as CEO of Beijing Sun Wah Future Software Limited, the parent company of Sun
Wah Linux in Beijing.
Dr. Liu brings a wealth of Open Source Software experience and wisdom to the
company and will promote Sun Wah Linux towards greater achievements in this
field and help to accelerate the OSS movement in China.
Dr. Liu, vice-chairman of China OSS Promotion Union, has conducted extensive
research in the field of System Software, Embedded System, Office Automation
System, and Software Projects. In the 2000 National 863 Plan Intelligent Computer
Theme, he guided the development group for the key project Embedded OS. Dr.
Liu is also the leader of Project "Yangfan" and Project "Qihang",
started by Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission. Prior to joining
Sun Wah Linux, Dr. Liu was the Deputy General Manager of Beijing Co-create OS
Ltd

Sun Wah Linux Chosen by Chinese Government for the largest Linux Desktop
Roll-Out in China's History
In October 2005, six PC makers, including Haier and Founder, announced that
they had won contracts to provide a total of 141,624 PCs to the Jiangsu Provincial
Department of Education for an educational program called, "School-to-School
Project." At the same time, Sun Wah Linux's Debian-based Chinese Operating
System RAYS LX was also chosen as the operating system used in all 141,624 PCs.
This was the largest Linux desktop rollout in Asia and the Jiangsu Province's
"School-to-School Project" is the largest procurement project in the
China education history. The project supplied PCs from this procurement to elementary
and secondary schools in lower income areas of nine cities in the provinces.
A total of fifteen companies competed for PC procurement deals worth a total
of RMB $346.2 million (USD $42.7 million). Dell, Hewlett Packard and Lenovo
were among three of the world's largest PC makers who competed for the contract.
In December 2005, Sun Wah Linux set up a website to provide helpful tips on
how to adapt and use RAYS LX for a Linux environment. Simultaneously, the School-to-School
website also provided a channel for teachers and students to study and discuss
Linux; thus popularizing the promotion of the application and knowledge of Linux
among primary and secondary schools and nurturing students' innovative spirits
and forming a multi-faceted, open computing culture.
The 2005 Golden Penguin Greater China Open Source Software Competition A
Resounding Success
In Mid October 2005, the 2005 Golden Penguin Greater China Open Source Software
Competition was held in Hong Kong. This was the largest OSS competition jointly
organized by Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan and the Macau SAR. The goal
was aimed at promoting the research and strategic development of new software,
and encouraging the development and establishment of Open Source Software (OSS)
in the Greater China Region.
Jointly organized by Hong Kong Sun Wah Hi-Tech Education Foundation, Co-Create
Software Branch of the Chinese Software Industry Association and Taipei Computer
Association Taiwan Linux Consortium, and co-organized by the Macau Productivity
and Technology Transfer Center, the competition saw support from all areas including,
industry associations, academic societies, trade organizations, universities,
graduate schools, open source communities and business corporations.
More than 150 software vendors from the Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong SAR and
Macau SAR participated in this competition. One of the objectives of the competition
was to recognize the achievements of the OS developers.
Sun Wah Linux RAYS ES & RAYS SS released
In 2005, Sun Wah Linux introduced RAYS ES Server and RAYS SS Security Server
to the
Market, making Sun Wah Linux a complete Linux system product line that covers
Desktop OS, Servers, Security Servers and Embedded areas. With the addition
of RAYS ES an RAYS SS, Sun Wah Linux is now one of the few local companies that
provides a complete set of operating systems.
Sun Wah Linux achieved significant breakthroughs in several vertical industries
this year, including the release of RAYS MX portable, an OS tailor-made for
portable storage devices such as portable USB hard disks and RAYS PX Point-of-sale
terminal solution .
